The father of Australia’s defence policy, Paul Dibb, has called for a massive increase in spending to create greater military self-reliance in the face of a shrinking and unreliable America.
Professor Dibb does not advocate abandoning or even weakening Australia’s most important alliance, but says the country must accept that the US is losing its global clout and reach, and that in an era of a rising China, Australia must focus more on its own core strategic interests.
